- Great Replacement Camera Review by Charlie Shaw Posted on 29 June 2016
I bought this as a replacement after my old Canon camera failed and I was looking long and hard at what to replace it with. The range of Cannon cameras to choose from is huge and with some it felt like it was a step down from the semi-pro range that I'd always aspired to, but in others it was a giant leap forward.
Price Value Quality
This camera feels good and performs well, with all the features that I could hope for. I'm not sure that the touch screen is for me (too set in my ways) but it is certainly intuitive and does not interfere with normal operations.
The tilt and swivel LCD is first class with useable - if not exactly blistering - live view performance. Were it not for the tilt and swivel LCD, I might have opted for 100D (ironically with better live view performance) but I am happy with my choice that I made the right decision.
Its important to do your research and I did mine before opting for 18-135 STM lens, having previously moved away from a long lens (28-200 ).
By the standards of my previous kit, it is a relatively slow lens - a characteristic offset or even out-weighted (I'm not entirely sure which) by the image-stabilisation. The results so far have been pretty good - any shortcoming perhaps being a reflection of my unfamiliarity with it; like any zoom, it needs a little thought to get the best out of it at each focal length.
Summing it up, this camera and lens combination is a pleasure to own and a pleasure to use. It feels good, is very well made and performs superbly. The best camera ever? Probably not, but possibly the best I'm ever going to need.
